Fujitsu Unveils "@nifty" Next-Generation Internet Service Provider

-- Merger of InfoWeb and NIFTY SERVE Network Services to Create Mega-Provider with 3.5 Million Subscribers --

Tokyo, July 8, 1999 -- Fujitsu Limited and its NIFTY Corporation subsidiary today announced that they plan to merge Fujitsu's InfoWeb Internet service with NIFTY's NIFTY SERVE online information service in November under the new service brand "@nifty". InfoWeb, Japan's largest Internet service provider, currently has 620,000 subscribers, and NIFTY, the nation's largest online information service provider, has 2.73 million subscribers. When the services are formally combined later this year, @nifty will be far and away Japan's largest provider, with a projected subscriber base of 3.5 million.

Fujitsu helped pioneer the online PC communication industry in Japan when it co-founded NIFTY (originally a joint venture with Nisho Iwai Corporation) in 1986, building up NIFTY SERVE to be the number one online information service in Japan. Foreseeing the expansion of the Internet, Fujitsu launched its InfoWeb Internet service in 1994 and also introduced Internet service connectivity to NIFTY SERVE, thus contributing to the development of two consumer-oriented network service providers.

Anticipating even more explosive expansion of the Internet into the general consumer market and mobile environments, and looking to establish itself as the top next-generation Internet service brand in Japan, Fujitsu acquired the remaining shares in NIFTY Corporation on March 31 of this year, setting the stage for the merger of the InfoWeb and NIFTY SERVE services.

The creation of @nifty reflects Fujitsu's commitment to expanding its Internet business. In the future, @nifty will be positioned as a consumer- oriented service infrastructure, providing a new business "venue" for partner companies that wish to take advantage of the @nifty network. New services will be central to its future expansion, and special emphasis will be given to linkages with global partners and the creation of new business opportunities in the global marketplace.

Leveraging Fujitsu's wealth of experience and know-how, @nifty will boast the most advanced Internet technology and a culture steeped in the open network tradition. InfoWeb and NIFTY SERVE subscribers will be able to seamlessly transfer their existing accounts to @nifty, without having to change their current user IDs or personal home page URLs. NIFTY SERVE's online information service menu will also continue in its present form. @nifty service will be operated by NIFTY Corporation, while appropriate departments of Fujitsu Limited, NIFTY Corporation and G-Search Limited will join together to enhance the level of service.

Fujitsu has set a target of having 10 million @nifty subscribers in Japan within the next five years.
