Fujitsu and 3Com Introduce Network Management Solution
- Integrates Fujitsu's SystemWalker and 3Com's TEM/W -
Tokyo, December 15, 1998---Fujitsu Limited and 3Com Corporation today announced a new network management solution that integrates 3Com's Transcend Enterprise Manager for Windows (TEM/W) with Fujitsu's SystemWalker/CentricMGR. The new solution enables users to move seamlessly between operation and management of network-connected enterprise systems under SystemWalker -- Fujitsu's best-selling integrated system and network management software -- and precise administration of 3Com's networking devices through TEM/W, thereby streamlining overall system and network management, optimizing resource utilization and reducing total cost of ownership.
Fujitsu will market the new solution bundle through 3Com's distributor beginning today, with product delivery scheduled from January 1999. The companies expect to sell 500 solution packages, priced at 750,000 yen each, over the next three years in Japan. The solution will be also offered outside Japan through Fujitsu's overseas affiliates.
Along with the rapid increase in corporate enterprise systems adopting Internet and intranet environments has come growing demand for solutions that effectively combine system-wide management and network administration functions to enable more effective utilization of computer and network infrastructure resources. The new Fujitsu/3Com solution responds to these needs by integrating management of network-connected (TCP/IP) computer systems and 3Com's network equipment. Specifically, it automatically and collectively registers multiple 3Com network devices within the SystemWalker environment, helping to improve credibility and lighten the workload of the system administrator. In addition, by monitoring traffic and providing detailed information on the network devices and their hierarchical structure, it enables the system administrator to quickly isolate and identify network-related problems and devise corrective measures.
The solution bundle announced today is the first concrete result of a wide- ranging collaboration between Fujitsu and 3Com. Based on Internet standards, the two companies will continue to work together to enhance compatibility between SystemWalker and 3Com network management software.
"We are very pleased to be working with Fujitsu," said Kathy Rocha, Vice President and General Manager for 3Com's Network Management Division. "As networks grow more complex, our goal is to simplify management and give network administrators the tools they need to become more productive. Combined, Transcend network management and SystemWalker form a very powerful solution to increase reliability and reduce the total cost of network ownership."
"In enterprise systems, it is important to effectively utilize the resources of the whole system, including networks," said Kimio Miyazawa, General Manager of Fujitsu's Software Division 4. "Now, in cooperation with 3Com, we have achieved the smooth integration of our two companies' management software products to cut the total cost of system ownership and maximize the efficient use of resources within enterprises."
About SystemWalker
Introduced in June 1998, Fujitsu's SystemWalker is an integrated management software based upon a new concept -- Policy-based Systems Management (PSM) -- and a successor to the company's MpWalker integrated management software for distributed systems. Building upon this success, SystemWalker provides the most appropriate system management solution through a comprehensive array of policy management, service management, and lifecycle management modules, including: policy management, network management, traffic management, Internet server management, systems monitoring, software distribution and remote installation, inventory management, help desk, remote operation, license management and user management.About Transcend Enterprise Manager for Windows
