Fujitsu Keeps Asia/Pacific Ahead With The Newest Pentium II Chip

- New entry level server systems deliver reliability, availability and serviceability needed by Asia's growing business sector -

teamserver Tokyo, April 16, 1998 - Fujitsu Limited is one of the first computer companies to market with 400Mhz Pentium II processor based servers. In announcing its new teamserver C800i series of servers today the company is targeting the needs of corporations and small to medium sized enterprises.

The systems announced at this time are the compact C800i & C820i based on 333Mhz and 400Mhz Pentium II processors. There are both pedestal and rackmountable versions of these systems.

The teamserver C800i series are a compact, high-performance, small to medium sized workgroup server designed to build upon and deliver the benefits of Intel's new technology. Ideal for running sophisticated business software the C800i series responds to the increasing demand for low cost, reliable servers that can grow along with the business.

Capable of upgrade from a single to dual processors these entry level systems also support high reliability through hot swap disks and low cost RAID options. The C800i series for Asia/Pacific makes use of both the very latest 400 Mhz (100Mhz bus) Pentium II CPUs with 512KB ECC protected level 2 cache and the previously announced 333Mhz(66Mhz Bus) Intel processors.

Fujitsu in maintaining its international leadership in server delivery has packaged its Intel based teamservers for the various regions around the globe.

Kazuto Kojima, Board Member and Group President, Marketing Group at Fujitsu Limited said, "Server business is global but there is still a need to understand regional requirements and then supply products best targeted at our customers needs." "We now have in place facilities which allow us to deliver the economies of scale of global production while having the capability to tailor system packages for regional consumption," he said.

All models can accommodate up to 36GB data on UltraWide SCSI disks without the need for optional SCSI cards. In addition, they all have a built-in 100/10Mbit LAN connection with Wake-on-LAN feature which means the servers can be powered on remotely, making systems administration easier and helping to conserve power.

Additional I/O expansion capability comes with 3 dedicated PCI and 2 dedicated ISA slots. An AGP graphics controller card with 2MB video RAM, a 24-speed CD-ROM and 64MB of highly reliable ECC SDRAM(registered) are provided as standard. The system memory can be expanded from 64MB to 1GB.

These new entry level systems have a lot of reliability features previously only seen on high-end systems. A further example is the use of Saf-Te disk systems which warn the systems administrator of their status so that maintenance can be performed before they fail.

"1998 is going to be a year of consolidation where we see more emphasis on the robustness and availability of servers as the use of Intel processors takes on more and more of those applications previously done using more proprietary technologies," said Kazuto Kojima. "Fujitsu's commitment to its RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) strategy, refined over many years of server system development, will be more important than ever as the growth in Intel based architecture servers continues."
