Fujitsu Releases ETERNUS LT160 Large Scale Tape Library
Integrated backup solution for next-generation network storage
Tokyo, June 17, 2002 -- Fujitsu Limited today announced the release in Japan and Asia-Pacific of the ETERNUS LT160 tape library for backing up large-scale server and storage systems. The new tape library, which
will begin shipping in Japan in early August and in Asia-Pacific from 4Q 2002, is equipped with Linear Tape Open (LTO) Ultrium TM standard tape drives (*1).
ETERNUS LT160 is expandable to up to 32 LTO Ultrium units. In its maximum configuration, it can back up 1.7TB of data per hour, a capacity about five times greater than a conventional tape library. The ETERNUS LT160 can access up to 628 cartridges with a total storage capacity of 62TB.
Connected via a SAN (storage area network), the ETERNUS LT160 can back up multiple servers and storage devices, enabling integrated operation and management for reduced TCO. Moreover, customers can expand their systems as necessary with more drives and cartridges for increased capacity and faster backup speeds.
With the spread of broadband Internet, corporations find themselves handling vastly more data, and the value of their data assets has increased accordingly. Backups become all the more important, but take longer, increasing the need for a system that can back up huge amounts of data in a limited amount of time. The ETERNUS LT160 tape library with LTO UltriumTM tape drives offers the speed and capacity needed to solve this problem.
ETERNUS LT160 Highlights
- High-speed, high-capacity tape drive
Can accommodate up to 32 LTO Ultrium tape-drive units -- each holding cartridges with individual uncompressed data capacities of 100GB -- with 15MB per second transfer rates. The overall system can accommodate up to 628 cartridges, for a total of 62TB of data.
- Compatible with a wide range of backup environments.
Uses Fiber Channel and Ultra Wide SCSI interface for connection to server, and is compatible with wide range of system configurations and server types. A single ETERNUS LT160 can be connected to multiple servers, making it compatible with cluster systems.
- Model configurations
The ETERNUS LT160 comes in two models to suit different capacity and performance needs, the performance-oriented model A32 and capacity-oriented A20. With either model, the customer can readily expand the number of drives and cartridges to accommodate future growth quickly.
- Easy system management
System managers can easily set system parameters and monitor operations using the web, and they can obtain settings and information via a control panel. The ETERNUS LT160 also supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and can be tied into Fujitsu's Systemwalker integrated management tool.
Glossary
- *1. Linear Tape Open UltriumTM standard
- Tape standard promulgated by the LTO consortium. Large storage capacity of 100GB uncompressed data per cartridge, with high-speed data transfer of 15MB per second.
