Fujitsu Introduces PRIMECLUSTER Solution for
Mission Critical Businesses Worldwide

- New Server Cluster Product Suite Optimizes
IT Infrastructure for 24 x 7 e-Commerce -

Tokyo, October 9, 2001---Fujitsu Limited today announced the global introduction of its new PRIMECLUSTER product suite offering enterprises a powerful and more cost effective solution for linking servers together to maximize the availability and scalability of their IT infrastructure.

Jointly developed by Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the PRIMECLUSTER suite of software and service products will be provided by Fujitsu Limited in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, Fujitsu Siemens Computers in EMEA and Fujitsu Technology Solutions in North America. To match the demands of both regional and global companies, Fujitsu is setting up common training concepts, common service packages and a worldwide support structure. Its dedicated development operations in Japan, Germany and the United States enable the group to provide immediate support around the clock. PRIMECLUSTER will be available from December on Solaris release 8 in EMEA, North America and Asia-Pacific, with Japan rollout to follow in 2002.

"By consolidating Fujitsu Limited's and Fujitsu Siemens Computers' strengths in the field of cluster technology to create the PRIMECLUSTER product suite, we are poised to significantly expand our business in the worldwide server market," said Takashi Aoki, Group President of Fujitsu Limited's Computer Systems Group. "Both companies have long-standing experience in this area, and the synergy of our group-wide joint development, support and sales resources has already resulted in an outstanding, full-scale product suite today and offers excellent business opportunities for the future."

- Redefining availability
Developed with enterprise customers' total business critical computing needs in mind, PRIMECLUSTER redefines the meaning of availability to encompass not only server uptime but the entire hardware infrastructure of network and storage devices that surround and work with the server cluster. PRIMECLUSTER provides a variety of mechanisms to implement high availability and scalability at all layers of redundancy possible with today's multi-tier enterprise applications.

The new PRIMECLUSTER product suite can be purchased in a range of solution-oriented server variants, including services such as cluster fail-over, cluster-wide data and file management, protection from network errors and sets of wizard tools to ease implementation, plus support for parallel databases and dynamic load balancing.

- Overcoming complexity
PRIMECLUSTER addresses several key issues critical to enterprises seeking to establish the right IT infrastructure to compete in today's competitive Internet economy. These include the fast and reliable implementation of complex infrastructure as well as the need to cluster across hardware platforms.

"PRIMECLUSTER works across all layers of multi-tier applications so that customers can optimize the use of their Solaris servers by allowing them to operate within a single cluster," explained Jens-Peter Seick, Executive Director, Line of Business UNIX at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "This ability to work with different layers brings obvious benefits in terms of reducing total cost of ownership and maximizing availability across the infrastructure. PRIMECLUSTER also offers cluster-enabled data management components, which allow scalable and load-balanced data access from multiple nodes - a vital feature for companies selling via the Internet."

The new solutions offered by PRIMECLUSTER can also dramatically reduce the set-up time necessary for specific applications such as SAP R/3. Customers will save time and money during the implementation phase, and also on an ongoing basis, as the increased reliability of the overall system is easier and cheaper to maintain.
