Shogakukan, Fujitsu and CAC Jointly Establish New Company to Offer Digital Content in Knowledge Field

Tokyo, October 23, 2000 -- Shogakukan, Inc., Fujitsu Limited, and CAC Corporation have together founded a new company called NetAdvance, which will offer digital content services in the knowledge field. Headquartered in Tokyo, the new company will begin operations on November 1.

The market for digital content has been growing explosively with the spread of the Internet. This trend has, however, led to the phenomenon of "information overload," which has brought about increasing interest in knowledge management.

NetAdvance will not only concern itself with content services in the knowledge field but will develop a broad range of services, including consulting and system construction, operation and management, to facilitate making use of content as knowledge.

The new company will benefit from the impressive array of assets and experience of its three sponsoring companies: Shogakukan's rich store of knowledge content, including encyclopedias, dictionaries and maps, Fujitsu's @nifty Internet service business and diverse content services, including detailed information on domestic and overseas corporations, and CAC's expertise in system consulting, construction, operation and management.

Focusing on knowledge content, the main asset of the publishing industry, NetAdvance will leverage the advantages of the Internet to construct various types of portal sites to offer everything from general to specific information for both corporate and individual users. It will also research and develop network editing environments for creating online encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other knowledge content.
