Tokyo, October 2, 2000 -- Fujitsu Limited today announced that it
has been awarded a major SDH microwave radio system order from
Bouygues Telecom, France's third largest mobile communications
operator. The system is to be deployed between base station
controllers (BSCs) and mobile switching centers (MSCs) in Bouygues'
mobile communications network covering all of France. The order is
valued at approximately 200 million francs (about 3.1 billion yen)
over the next three years,
Bouygues has about 4 million mobile phone subscribers in France,
exceeded only by France Telecom and SFR, and is the nation's number
1 DCS 1800 digital cellular operator. Up to now, the company has
leased its trunk transmission lines. The installation of Fujitsu's
FRX Series SDH microwave radio system will enable Bouygues to
quickly construct a network with its own high-quality, large
capacity SDH lines.
Fujitsu's FRX Series is the industry's most compact and lightweight
SDH microwave radio system. Its ease of installation and maintenance
enables operators to efficiently and economically deploy and operate
advanced communications networks.
"This order marks an important step forward in increasing Fujitsu's
presence France, and we intend to further expand our activities in
various areas of the telecommunications field in that country,"
said Dr. Kazuo Murano, Member of the Board of Fujitsu Limited and
president of its International Telecommunications Business Group.
"Moreover, we believe that our expanded participation and presence
in the French market will also lead to new business opportunities
for us in Europe in the wireless mobile systems and fiber optic
communications equipment fields."
