Tokyo, August 9, 2000 - Fujitsu Limited today unveiled a new brand to be used in worldwide markets for Fujitsu's range of best-selling image scanners for business users. Beginning today in Japan, and with the future introduction of new products in overseas markets, Fujitsu's image scanners will be marketed under the "fi Series" brand name. The move will enable customers to procure common image scanners on a global basis, backed by support through the company's existing worldwide service network. Fujitsu expects the new branding initiative to strengthen global sales and further consolidate its leadership position in imaging technologies for the corporate market.
Fujitsu's business-use image scanners boast the world's first high-speed, simultaneous two-side scanning function, as well as a high-performance automatic document feeder for stable and high-speed scanning. Targeting a wide range of applications from distributed to centralized processing environments, the company has a broad product portfolio and unparalleled product development capabilities. These strengths have allowed Fujitsu to quickly chalk up substantial business growth in the European and the U.S. markets, where document imaging and electronic documentation are especially active. Contributing to its success in these markets, Fujitsu works closely with local independent software and hardware vendors (ISVs and IHVs) and has made its products compatible with different Windows operating systems, including 95, 98, NT4.0 and 2000. In the U.S., for example, Fujitsu is the clear market leader in mid-speed image scanner segment (10 to 85 ppm), with a market share of 50%.
In Japan, more and more businesses are introducing Optical Character Reader (OCR) and document management systems to improve efficiency and productivity. Fujitsu has been busy expanding its share of this growing market by offering its own packaged solutions including "ImageOFFICE," a document imaging software, and "DynaEye," an OCR software for handwritten invoices and bills. It plans to further strengthen its cooperation with ISVs and IHVs to develop improved software and hardware solutions and actively offer a wider range of imaging options to its business customers.
Fujitsu will continue to maintain its worldwide leadership position in business-use image scanners by introducing higher-speed and color versions of its products in the future. The company projects total scanner sales to reach 200,000 units over the next two years.
