Ford Motor Company Licenses Fujitsu's Japanese-English Translation Software

- Web-enabled translation software to facilitate communication with Mazda Motor Corporation -

Tokyo, May 1, 2000 -- Fujitsu Limited has concluded a licensing agreement with Ford Motor Company under which Ford and its Japan-based Mazda Motors affiliate will use Fujitsu's "TransLinGO! Enterprise" Japanese-English translation software on its internal systems. The licensing agreement was concluded at the end of January and the software is already in use.

Ford, a leading global provider of automotive products and services, has been expanding its worldwide business through its many international subsidiaries and affiliates. To help ease communication and information sharing with personnel at Mazda, Ford selected Fujitsu's TransLinGO! Enterprise translation software, which runs on an English Windows operating environment and enables users to view Japanese Web pages, e-mail and files created in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint in English.

The decision to use TransLinGO! Enterprise follows upon Mazda's positive experience using Fujitsu's "ATLAS V.6.0 Double Pack" translation software. This earlier bi-directional translation product (i.e., English to Japanese and Japanese to English), in use at Mazda since early 1999, has been particularly popular with Mazda engineers in the product development division, who use it for exchanging letters, faxes and e-mail with their colleagues at Ford. With its improved translation quality and ability to provide Web page translation in an English operating environment, TransLinGO! Enterprise builds on this successful experience and is expected to further contribute to intra-company communication within the Ford group.

Fujitsu expects TransLinGO! Enterprise to become a popular communication tool at other global companies seeking to utilize Web-based Japanese language information. In addition to multinational companies with Japanese affiliates, joint ventures between Japanese and international companies are seen as promising potential customers.
