Fujitsu teamservers Build In Greater Power & Flexibility

- latest upgrades boost line's Internet readiness -

teamserversTokyo, October 20, 1999 -- Fujitsu Ltd. today announced a full-line upgrading of its teamserver family of IA servers to accommodate higher processor speeds and much larger internal disk populations without compromising the customer benefits of its tough RAS (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) strategy. In addition, the company announced new models based on both 600MHz Intel® Pentium®III processors and 550Mhz Intel® Pentium®III Xeon™ processors.

The teamserver models M800i and L800i match the requirements of the data center and enterprise computing segments of the market. All models have been upgraded from 500MHz to 550MHz processors with a variety of cache sizes from 512KB to 2MB. New 600MHz models are being introduced for the teamserver C300i entry-level file and print, C800i workgroup computing and G800i departmental segments, further enhancing the power and flexibility of Fujitsu's servers at the volume delivery end of the market.

"Our smaller servers have been selling well in various retail and workgroup computing market segments," said Mr. Isao Suzuki, Senior Vice President and Group President, Marketing Group, Fujitsu Limited. "So these changes anticipate greater data volumes and power requirements that will occur as these segments move to Internet distribution models, a greater use of graphics and new forms of in-store promotion."

Improving Internet readiness and accommodating larger disk populations, the popular single processor C300i entry models now support Ultra2Wide SCSI cards. Base memory on all C300i, C800i series models has also been standardized at 128MB (G800 is 256MB), and even the smallest teamserver now supports up to 72.8GB of internal disk storage. The use of external disk storage cabinets can significantly increase this basic capacity.

At the other end of the range, the storage capabilities of the M800i and L800i teamserver series have also been enhanced. The L800i series now supports up to 254.8GB and the M800i series 509.6GB internal to the base cabinet. This greatly improves their growth capacity for use as platforms for ERP, large database or as online shopping servers. The 4-way M890ic teamserver recently set a world record of 25,440.6 tpmC at $28.57 per tpmC.

"We are seeking not only to make our servers price competitive but also to provide top-end power and capacity to meet the demands of our larger customers as they move to more Internet-based business models," added Mr. Suzuki.

All upgraded teamservers will start shipping from November 15th.
