Tokyo, Japan, May 4, 1998 - Fujitsu Limited today introduced three new models to its 3.5-inch DynaMO 640 magneto optical (MO) drive series. The new models, DynaMO 640SE,640SD and 640AI, are aimed to strengthen Fujitsu's MO product line-up in the international PC market. DynaMO 640Sx external series sets a new standard of the 640MB SCSI subsystem with its high performance, competitive price, sleek external appearance, high reliability and ease of use. Implementing a 28 milliseconds seek time and a newly designed cache algorithm, DynaMO 640Sx series improves the overall performance by up to 20% compared with the previous DynaMO 640. The newly designed aesthetic external box reduces its volumetric capacity by around 40% making it a more a portable drive. It also achieves quiet operation by eliminating the internal cooling fan.
Compatible to the different PC platforms, DynaMO 640Sx is a very versatile MO device. The standard configuration of DynaMO 640Sx bundles device drivers and formatters for Windows 3.1 / 95 / NT3.5x / NT4.0 and OS/2 Warp with user friendly setup programs. DynaMO 640Sx is available with either external AC adapter model (640SE) or internal universal power supply model (640SD).
DynaMO 640AI is an "internal" version of the DynaMO series with the ATAPI interface. (ATAPI= AT Attachment Packet Interface, the standard IDE storage interface for AT-compatible or "IBM compatible" personal computers.) By using ATAPI interface, user can install the DynaMO 640AI into the PC system without the SCSI host adapter board. DynaMO 640AI will be an ideal low cost solution for expanding the PC system with removable MO drives.
The new prices makes DynaMO series the more affordable choice for PC data storage. The suggested end user list price of DynaMO 640AI starts from $299 and DynaMO 640Sx starts from $349.
Reliability of the removable drives and its media is the hottest concern in today's removable market even for the low-end storage device. MO technology is the most reliable solution among today's removable technology for its unmatched reliability, MO has long been an ideal storage choice in mission critical environments where reliability cannot be compromised, in such areas like medical imaging systems, telephone switching systems and airplane systems. The new DynaMO640 series offer such premium reliability to the general PC users for the first time by realizing the affordable price.
The MO media has more benefits than any other removable drives. The cost per megabyte is almost as low as 3 cents per megabyte and it will assure you the lowest cost of ownership for the increasing storage demand. Unlike most of other removable storage, MO always keeps the backward compatibility with previous generation capacities. Fujitsu's 640MB MO drive can read and write 128MB, 230MB, 540MB and 640MB media. The biggest benefit for the user is that the user can choose the right capacity with right cost among such wide selection.
For OEM customers and industrial customers, MCx3064 series, a 3.5-inch 640MB MO bare drive configuration is also available in either SCSI-2 or ATAPI interface.
