SAN DIEGO - May 14, 1997 - Fujitsu-ICL Systems Inc., a premier provider of ruggedized mobile computing systems in the roaming worker market, today announced the signing of an agreement with the Siemens Nixdorf Transportation Division, a leader in providing information technology solutions to many industries worldwide. Under the terms of the agreement, Fujitsu-ICL will provide Siemens Nixdorf with their new TeamPad 7600 handheld computer. Early target application areas in the transportation industry include maintenance, baggage handling, customer service and cargo.
"We're thrilled to partner with another industry leader like Siemens Nixdorf to provide much-needed technology to the transportation industry," said Ron Omohundro, senior vice president of Fujitsu-ICL's Global Products Group. "Together, we are giving transportation workers the power to be more efficient and effective in their work."
According to Jim Crawford, vice president of sales and marketing of the Siemens Nixdorf Transportation Division, the two companies have already completed a highly successful trial with a major international airline. "With the TeamPad 7600, we made service manuals, inspection reports and airplane schematics available to airplane mechanics as read-only information. The mechanics making inspections and repairs linked to a server via radio frequency transmissions rather than walking to the library of manuals and searching for the needed information," Crawford said. "With all the relevant information literally at their fingertips, each mechanic gained more than one hour of productive work time per day. Imagine that efficiency gain translated over the entire maintenance staff, and you can see the power of the Siemens Nixdorf / Fujitsu-ICL partnership."
Siemens Nixdorf is one of the world's leading suppliers of solutions for the travel and tourism industry. The Transportation Technologies division provides clients with a competitive edge through advanced products combined with extensive resources in systems implementation and integration, network design and business process reengineering. Solutions are backed by Siemens Nixdorf's global infrastructure for service and support.
