VOICE-ACTIVATED FIN FIN 2.0 IS EVEN MORE FUN FOR KIDS

Fujitsu Interactive demoes next generation of the ultimate virtual companion at E3

ATLANTA, Georgia (E3 Show), June 19, 1997 That was fast. Just last month, Fin Fin a lovable flying dolphin, the world's only virtual pet with "feelings" began gliding into U.S. stores on Fujitsu Interactive's debut CD-ROM, "Fin Fin on Teo, the Magic Planet". Today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Atlanta, Fujitsu Interactive demoed Version 2.0 of the title. Now voice-activated and with several other enhancements, Version 2.0 proves that even the best can get better.

"Kids love Fin Fin," said Shigetoshi Akasaki, Fujitsu Interactive's president, "because he brings a whole new world into their lives and because he's the only computer creature that can actually 'feel' emotions and develop a relationship with them. And the beauty of Fin Fin is that, while they are developing this relationship, Fin Fin reinforces the lessons of kindness: if you're mean to him, you'll hurt his feelings; if you're nice, he'll become your friend. And now with these new features," Akasaki added, "Fin Fin's even more fun for kids to play with."

Highlights of Version 2.0 include:

These new features enhance what is already the most advanced, most seemingly alive Artificial Life-based virtual companion. Developed in the labs of Fujitsu, Ltd., Japan's largest computer maker and the parent company of San Francisco-based Fujitsu Interactive, Fin Fin and the world of Teo were eight years in the making and costing millions. The result is a virtual creature that seems alive because of its unique combination of technology and art. Artificial life, artificial intelligence and believable agent technology give Fin Fin the "feel" of life his personality, his smarts and his emotional make-up. State-of-the-art 3D animation and vibrant color give Fin Fin, his fellow Teo dwellers, and Teo itself the "look" of life.

Product Availability/System Requirements

Intended for kids aged 4 and up, Fin Fin on Teo, the Magic Planet Version 2.0 will be available from computer, toy, book and discount stores in August 1997. The suggested retail price will be $39.95. (A SmartSensor is an advanced sensory input device which brings both the sounds and motions of users into Fin Fin's world.)
