JAIMS and Fujitsu honored by Government Leaders in Hawaii

- Governor of Hawaii, Mayor of Honolulu recognize 25 year contribution to global business & understanding -

Honolulu, Hawaii, June 4, 1997 - In separate ceremonies held in Honolulu, JAIMS and Fujitsu were honored by the State and Local Governments of Hawaii. The awards were given to JAIMS and Fujitsu in recognition of a quarter century of outstanding contribution to Hawaiian business and international education.

The Honorable Benjamin J. Cayetano, Governor of the State of Hawaii, issued a proclamation to Fujitsu Limited Chairman Takuma Yamamoto. The Governor's statement declared that "JAIMS has emerged as a leader in intercultural management education, contributing significantly to the human and economic development of the Asia-Pacific regions."

To congratulate Chairman Yamamoto and the JAIMS Board of Trustees on the occasion of JAIMS' 25th anniversary, Governor Cayetano declared June 1 through June 7, 1997 to be:

JAIMS WEEK IN HAWAII

The Honorable Jeremy Harris, Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, issued a proclamation to JAIMS and Chairman Yamamoto "to acknowledge the contributions of this fine organization has made toward furthering international trade and management science in the greater Pacific Region."

Mayor Harris declared June 4, 1997 to be:

JAIMS DAY IN HONOLULU

The awards were presented to Mr. Yamamoto as leader of the Board of Trustees of JAIMS on the 25th Anniversary of the institute's foundation. JAIMS was founded in 1972 by Fujitsu as the Japan-America Institute of Management Science. JAIMS' mission was to educate and train individuals in management science methods and practices of Japan and the United States. That mission has broadened in scope by preparing business managers to assume positions of leadership in an increasingly interdependent global economy.

For 25 years, JAIMS has been bridging different cultures and business practices of the United States and Japan, and most recently China, for current and future business people. Over 14,000 participants from over 40 countries have graduated from a JAIMS program or seminar.

The JAIMS 25TH anniversary is being celebrated with events in Japan and Hawaii throughout the year:

This week in Hawaii the JAIMS 25th anniversary forum, a high level executive forum for the leading business figures in the Asia-Pacific region, is being held under the theme "Preparing Global Leaders for the 21st Century."
Speakers at the forum include Dr. Nancy Alder of McGill University in Montreal, Canada, Mr Robert Lees, Secretary General of the Pacific Basin Economic Council and Dr. Shigeru Miyagawa, Kochi Prefecture-John Majiro Professor of Japanese Language and Culture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
For Japanese business people, JAIMS offers a series of special business and technology study abroad programs and seminars throughout the year. Seminars will bring participants from Japan to get first hand experience of the latest business and information technology trends at locations in Hawaii, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Salt Lake City and San Francisco.
The JAIMS 25th Anniversary Seminar focuses on electronic commerce and the latest IT tools and business strategies used in the U.S. will be held in Honolulu July 16 through the 22nd. Seminars scheduled later this year will focus on multimedia, Internet & intranets, groupware, network computing, end user development, object oriented software and intelligent agents.
The JAIMS 25th Anniversary Alumni Conference is being held July 16-19 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Alumni conference is expected to reunite hundreds of past JAIMS participants from dozens of countries around the world.
