Philippine President Fidel Ramos Inaugurates Fujitsu's New Manufacturing Plant

July 12, 1996- Tokyo, Japan- Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos will today inaugurate Fujitsu's newest international manufacturing facility, located near Mailla in the Philippines. The new company, called Fujitsu Computer Products Corporation of the Philippines (FCPP), manufactures advanced hard disk drive storage products for Fujitsu's worldwide computer business group.

The plant being opened by President Ramos is located on an 8.4 hectare property in the Special Export Processing Zone at the Carmelray Industrial Park, around 40 kilometers south of Metro Manila. Also attending the inauguration ceremony is Mr. Tadashi Sekizawa, President of Fujitsu Limited.

The overall improvement in the Philippine business environment with its highly favorable investment policies, the steady and stable economic growth of the country, coupled by the availability of highly educated and talented engineers; English-speaking and skilled workers; and world class managers plus its proximity from Japan have convinced the management of Fujitsu that the Philippines is the best location for it new production facility.

Utilizing Fujitsu's advanced hard disk drive (HDD) manufacturing technology, FCPP will be producing 300,000 HDDs per month by March 1997. The new plant manufactures the latest and most advanced 3.5 inch hard disk drives equiped with Magneto-Resistive Heads for both the high-end or high capacity market and the medium capacity market. FCPP's products will be exported to various Fujitsu customers in the United States of America, Europe, Japan and the other emerging markets in Asia.

FCPP currently employs more than 1,000 workers many of whom were trained in Japan and Thailand under the close guidance of Japanese experts who will also stay in the Philippines to ensure the proper and complete transfer of technology. FCPP's establishment is expected to strengthen Fujitsu's position in the global market and trigger an aggressive strategy to gain global leadership in hard disk drives manufacturing.

FCPP is the third subsidiary of Fujitsu in the Philippines following the establishment of Fujitsu Philippines, Inc. in 1983 and Fujitsu Ten Corporation of the Philippines in 1990.
