ICL's Prospero sets new interconnect systems performance record on Compaq platform
(ICL - London, UK) |
ICL, the e-business services company, announced the results of
benchmarking tests that set a new record in interconnect systems
performance. The tests were carried out at the Compaq
benchmarking centre in Boston, United States and showed that
Prospero - ICL’s interconnect and settlement system - running on
a high specification Compaq server, can rate up to 1,024 million
Call Data Records (CDRs) in only eight hours. This breaks the
current published industry record of 500 million CDRs in eight
hours.

Fujitsu Introduces New Mass Rackable Unix Server
(Fujitsu Limited - Tokyo, Japan) |
Fujitsu Limited announced a new ultra-thin (1U, 4.4cm high), mass
rackable compute node in its Solaris-based PRIMEPOWER UNIX server
range. Called PRIMEPOWER 1, it provides significant floor-space
savings for business-critical data center environments. The new
server will be initially marketed in Japan, Asia-Pacific and North
America, with worldwide sales to follow.

Fujitsu Equips Dynegyconnect for Aggressive Expansion into Bandwidth Trading Market
(Fujitsu Network Communications - Richardson, US) |
Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. announced at CompTel an agreement with Dynegyconnect, L.P., a subsidiary of Dynegy Inc., to deploy its FLASHWAVE OADX, the world's largest capacity 1.76 terabits per second, dense wavelength division multiplexing equipment for its long haul network. Dynegyconnect is developing the first nationwide optically switched data network that will consist of approximately 20,000 route miles and more than 40 points of presence with over 100 FLASHWAVE OADX systems by the fourth quarter of 2001. The network will support private line, ATM and IP services with circuit sizes of OC-3, OC-12, OC-48 and OC-192. Under the terms of the agreement, Fujitsu will install, deploy and provide network management services for FLASHWAVE OADX.

Fujitsu Liberator gives supermarket retailers open-systems options for IBM 4690 POS systems

Fujitsu-ICL Systems Inc. announced the Liberator, a new Linux-
based point-of-sale software solution that supports and enhances
existing IBM 4690 point-of-sale (POS) supermarket applications.
The combination of Liberator and the Fujitsu TeamPoS 2000 POS
terminal gives supermarket retailers using IBM 4690 systems a
low-risk POS hardware alternative that reduces costs, adds power
and graphics, and provides an open systems environment. Liberator,
available in March, is the first Linux offering from Fujitsu-ICL.

of-sale terminal to earn Microsoft WHQL certification, passing
tests for both Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and Microsoft
