Fujitsu Introduces Enhanced Lineup of PRIMEPOWER Servers
With High-Performance 1.35GHz SPARC64TM V Processor

New PRIMEPOWER Models Boast Unprecedented Performance and Reliability

PRIMEPOWER 2500Tokyo, October 2, 2002 -- Fujitsu Limited today announced a major enhancement of its PRIMEPOWERTM family of SolarisTM Operating Environment compatible SPARCTM compliant servers with the global introduction of three new models for business-critical UNIX® enterprise computing environments. Boasting unprecedented performance and reliability features, the new PRIMEPOWER 900, 1500 and 2500 models use 1.35GHz SPARCTM V processors, currently the highest clock speeds available in the SPARC V9 architecture. Equipped with 1.35GHz SPARC64 V, PRIMEPOWER 900 has achieved a top-class performance rating of 1,205 floating point operations under the SPECfp 2000 benchmark.

Performance, linear scalability, flexibility and mainframe levels of reliability have all been addressed with the new PRIMEPOWER servers, which are capable of meeting the highest demands in mission critical computing and broadband Internet service delivery while providing outstanding scalability for the world's most demanding applications.

The new PRIMEPOWER servers show 1.8 times improvement in floating point processing performance over previous models, and their refined monitoring features include over 300,000 error-detection circuits per system. Also new is Fujitsu's Extended Partitioning technology, which enables multiple operating environments to be created by splitting system boards into multiple partitions in units as low as 1 or 2 CPUs. These and other innovative technologies and architectural features, such as hardware instruction retry, dynamic upgrade and repair and high-performance clustering capabilities, take PRIMEPOWER's recognized advantages in performance, reliability, availability and scalability to an even higher level.

"Strategic alliances, mergers and other changes in enterprise environments in recent years have heightened requirements for flexible, expandable mission-critical Unix servers that can accommodate unpredictable business expansion and support the development of new services," said Takashi Aoki, Corporate Vice President of Fujitsu Limited's Platforms Business Group. "PRIMEPOWER already has 128-way scalability - the industry's highest - as well as world-leading performance in a number of benchmarks. With our new PRIMEPOWER servers we have applied Fujitsu's proven expertise in large-scale system design to fully deliver mainframe-class reliability in an open systems environment. Add in even higher performance from our new SPARC64 V processors and doubled 128-way bus technology, and the new PRIMEPOWER servers are the ideal solution for helping customers ensure business continuity while improving productivity and business process efficiency."

Industry Partners Welcome New PRIMEPOWER Offerings
"Oracle welcomes this new robust line of open systems servers from Fujitsu," said Doug Kennedy, vice president, Platform Alliances, System Platforms Division at Oracle Corporation. "The combination of Oracle and PRIMEPOWER technology has already resulted in a number of global industry-leading benchmarks. The growing adoption and extended architecture of PRIMEPOWER servers along with the industry leading Oracle® software will help provide powerful solutions to a much wider base of customers."

"Fujitsu's new PRIMEPOWER servers offer an impressive platform for high availability and data manageability when combined with market leading clustering and storage management software from VERITAS," said Brenda Zawatski, vice president of product and solutions marketing, VERITAS Software. "Through our collaboration, VERITAS and Fujitsu will deliver a solution that allows our customers 24x7 access to mission critical data and addresses their business requirements for efficiency, flexibility and cost-effective computing."

"The selection of the SolarisTM 9 Operating Environment is a great match to the new PRIMEPOWER," said Graham Lovell, Marketing Director, Sun Microsystems. "The Solaris OE has already proven its excellent scalability and availability in the data center and best meets the needs of mission critical environments for availability and security."
