Fujitsu Announces The SolarisTM 9 Operating Environment
on Its PRIMEPOWER Servers

Enhanced security, performance and scalability features on hardware platform is ideal combination for business-critical computing environments

Tokyo, June 12, 2002-Fujitsu Limited today announced the immediate worldwide availability of the Solaris(TM) 9 Operating Environment (OE) on its SPARC64 GP-based PRIMEPOWER range of servers for business-critical computing. The enhanced security, performance and scalability of Solaris 9 OE and its ability to better use additional CPU resources are an excellent match to PRIMEPOWER's highly scalable systems. The combination will further consolidate the Solaris OE's position as the leading operating environment in the UNIX® market space.

"The close cooperation between Sun and Fujitsu underscores the commitment that each company has for the Solaris Operating Environment. Sun and Fujitsu plan to work even closer together, with the goal of extending the Solaris OE's leadership as the premiere Operating Environment for business and mission critical computing," said Mr. Anil Gadre, Vice President and General Manager of Solaris Software, Sun Microsystems.

"The richness of the application portfolio on the Solaris OE and its broad-based match to today's computing environments has made it the ideal choice for enterprise computing," said Mr. Takashi Aoki, Group President of Fujitsu's Computer Systems Group. "This new release will allow us to help our customers improve the performance of their applications through even better utilization of available resources."

Fujitsu is committed to meeting the needs of business-critical computing in the data center, particularly for mission-critical applications. The scalability, availability, manageability and security improvements in the Solaris 9 Operating Environment will enable large database and financial applications to be more easily managed and tailored to system resources. Fujitsu will also add value, by offering its latest "five nines" high-availability products, such as PRIMECLUSTER, to ensure the highest levels of service for broadband and mission-critical computing.

The Solaris 9 OE combined with the PRIMEPOWER family of products will allow customers to prioritize available resources in their IT infrastructure while ensuring optimal uptime performance and minimized costs.

The Solaris 9 OE will be available in the majority of the PRIMEPOWER range of systems from initial shipment date. Please contact local Fujitsu representatives for details.
