Fujitsu Introduces New Ultra-compact PRIMERGY Server
-- 36.5cm-deep 1U server can be either stacked on the desktop or racked in the data center --

Tokyo, December 19, 2001--- Fujitsu today introduced a special purpose
rack-optimized Intel-based server, called PRIMERGY L100, that provides
one of the world's smallest server footprints. The 1U*1 rack or
desktop stackable entry-level server has a depth of only 36.5cm. The
model goes on sale worldwide today.
PRIMERGY L100 is another example of how Fujitsu is meeting the needs
of the broadband age. This compact flexible server adds an economical
entry-level capability to its line-up of adaptive rack-optimized
server modules. PRIMERGY servers not only meet the high reliability
expectations of Internet Data Center and enterprise customers, but
also reduce the overall cost of ownership through economical space
saving configurations.
The stackable PRIMERGY L100 makes it possible to build in-store or
in-office "file and print stations" having the same footprint as a
single desktop PC. Such stations can drive a selection of printing
devices while offering inexpensive file storage through use of lower
cost 80GB EIDE disk drives in standard SCSI or mirrored disk
configurations. In the data center PRIMERGY L100 is targeted at
dedicated infrastructure solutions, including gateways, firewalls,
security and dedicated hosting services.
PRIMERGY L100 aims to maximize price/performance in the smallest and
most efficient space. At only 36.5cm deep and maximum 9kg in weight,
it is about 40% smaller and 25% lighter than previous models. Its
43.2mm height is also thinner than a single rack height unit, making
it easy to insert and remove from a rack or used on the desktop
(stacked up to 3 high). Built for use with Windows 2000 Server and
Linux, it also supports IDE hard-disk technology (RAID 1) for disk
mirroring directly off the motherboard, and two onboard Adapter Fault
Tolerant (AFT) LAN ports support the IDC encoding of IPsec with Windows
2000 Server. Fujitsu's ServerView management software ensures reliable
operation especially when used for expansion of Internet systems as a
very affordable front-end processor. Both 900MHz Intel® CeleronTM
processor and 1.2GHz Intel® Pentium®III processor models are
available. Both have standard memory of 128MB (expandable to 1.5GB)
and can be installed with up to two 80GB IDE disks.
