Fujitsu Set to Enter PDA Market
Developing Pocket PC 2002-based PDA as Part of Seamless
Computing Line-up for the Broadband Internet Era

Tokyo, October 5, 2001--- Looking to tap into burgeoning
opportunities being created by the convergence of mobile
communications and computing technologies, Fujitsu Limited
today announced that it will enter the growing global market for
handheld Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). Fujitsu is
developing and will introduce in the first quarter of calendar
2002 a PDA based on the Microsoft® Pocket PC 2002 platform.
The new PDA, which will be marketed as a global product by
Fujitsu and its group companies in Japan, Europe, North America
and Asia, will be positioned as part of a seamless line-up of
computing products for the broadband Internet era.
Fujitsu's PDA will use the newly introduced Microsoft® Pocket
PC 2002 software platform, which provides a high-performance
multi-task environment, superior multimedia features and excellent
connectivity and continuity with existing Windows®-based
products.
"Taking advantage of all that the Pocket PC 2002 platform has to
offer and building on the success of our existing mobile computing
and communications technologies, our new PDAs will be ideal
high-performance tools for integrated mobility solutions in sales
force automation, supply chain management, and other enterprise
applications," said Chiaki Itoh, Group President of Fujitsu's Personal
Systems Business Group. "At the same time, we're confident that
their advanced music, video and other multimedia features will also
make them popular as personal entertainment devices for individual
consumers."
