Tokyo, March 12, 2001 --- Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Microelectronics Pacific Asia Ltd. have jointly developed and today will begin marketing two new products in the F2MC (Fujitsu Flexible Microcontroller) family of system control microcontrollers. Suitable for home appliance applications, the new products -- MB90F462 and MB90462 -- are 16 bit microcontrollers for AC/DC motors.
Nowadays, products like refrigerators and air conditioners are equipped with at least two motors, an AC compressor motor and a DC cooling fan motor. In order to optimize the efficiency of each motor, a microcontroller-controlled inverter is needed to ensure smooth shifting of motor speed. Moreover, to cope with the higher performance of today's home appliances, microcontrollers for AC/DC motors and inverters must have improved program development efficiency and lower power consumption.
Fujitsu's newly introduced products respond to these needs. By integrating AC/DC and DC microcontrollers on a single 16 bit chip, motor control program development is made more efficient and circuitry is simplified. In addition, to cope with the increased power consumption requirements of a single chip device, the new microcontrollers feature shared CPU and memory and a built-in multi-function timer for high efficiency inverter control, as well as a built-in multi-pulse generator to ensure high-precision inverter control, achieving power consumption of just 250 milliwatts (Vcc = 5.0V at Fcp*1 = 16 MHz), equivalent to that of existing products. Designed to reduce surface mount area, the new microcontrollers come in the same packaging as Fujitsu's existing products.
In the future, Fujitsu intends to further enhance its lineup of F2MC microcontrollers for system control of digital AV equipment, home appliances and other products by utilizing its system LSI (SOC) technology to reduce mounting area, diminish the number of parts and simplify PCB design.
