Tokyo, February 7, 2001---Fujitsu Limited announced today that Fujitsu Europe Limited, its UK-based subsidiary, has entered into an OEM Agreement with Iomega International S.A. (*1), the European headquarters of Iomega Corporation, to supply Fujitsu's industry-leading 1.3GB 3.5-inch magneto-optical (MO) disk drives (GIGAMO, (*2)) on an OEM basis for the European market. Iomega began shipments yesterday of products containing Fujitsu's MO drives from its distribution center in Tiel in the Netherlands.
The OEM Agreement with Iomega is part of Fujitsu's strategy to expand its sales channels for MO drives across Europe, as well as Iomega's commitment to broaden its European product range.
Since their market debut in 1992, Fujitsu's 3.5-inch MO drives have won high marks from customers for their high reliability and stability. In addition to advanced performance and functionality for the storage of text and digital graphics, Fujitsu's MO drives boast full backward compatibilty with all MO media ranging from 128MB to 1.3GB.
Aiming to build up its MO drive business in overseas markets, Fujitsu is developing new business partnerships with various companies. The OEM Agreement with Iomega is not only an opportunity to increase Fujitsu's European MO drive sales network, but is expected to lead to even greater growth of the European 3.5-inch MO drive market.
By the end of March 2001, Fujitsu expects the worldwide market for 3.5-inch MO drives to top eight million units. As the market leading producer of 3.5-inch MO drives, Fujitsu will continue to push ahead with its global sales expansion efforts.
