Tokyo, February 1, 2001---Fujitsu Limited announced today two new thin server-based web accelerators, PRIMERGY SJ10R and MJ10R, built to maximize the benefits provided by the latest versions of Novell's Internet Caching System (ICS). The combination of Fujitsu and Novel technologies aims to realize the benefits promised by caching systems but often not achieved due to implementation limitations. This new set- and-forget technology is configurable in a range of clustered hierarchies, enabling more requests to be satisfied by highly responsive equipment in high bandwidth locations.
Fujitsu offers an initial choice of two caching appliances based on the reliable and cool-running hardware used in its PRIMERGY TS120/220 mass-rackable thin servers. Both new models are based on 800EBMHz Intel® Pentium®III processors. PRIMERGY SJ10R contains 256MB of memory and 15GB of cache space, while PRIMERGY MJ10R contains 512MB of memory and 50GB of cache space. Both systems are delivered with a CD-ROM drive as standard.
"These really are closed system appliances that make good use of embedded technology for remote management, said Takashi Aoki, Group President, Computer Systems Group, Fujitsu Limited. "They don't need their own console, nor do they have to be configured or tuned. Once installed and switched on, they can be monitored remotely at any PC by standard web browser."
Using the latest preinstalled ICS software, functionality has been extended from just simple web request and web server accelerators to allow the construction of sophisticated clusters of accelerators that maximize the benefits of web acceleration. PRIMERGY SJ10R and MJ10R can be used in either parent-child CERN hierarchies or in the more sophisticated ICP parent-child-peer hierarchies. With these hierarchies ISPs and data center managers can further reduce network costs by guaranteeing that responsive low-cost web accelerators positioned in high bandwidth locations serve more hits. They can also achieve a further reduction in roll out costs and reduce reliance on expensive high bandwidth connections by reducing the need to continually seek information across slow bandwidth connections and from slow to respond servers.
