Fujitsu Upgrades Its PRIMERGY Rack Offerings

New black racks and larger, more compact storage products
Tokyo, February 1, 2001---Fujitsu Limited announced today new rack options for its PRIMERGY range of Intel® architecture servers. These new Fujitsu racks will be the standard for all Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers. In addition, new black storage and backup device nodes are also introduced to match the new PRIMERGY servers also being introduced for the global marketplace at this time. (See separate release: Fujitsu's New Globally Available PRIMERGY Servers Are Optimized for e-commerce.)

The new racks come in both 40U and 24U configurations with a range of high quality features. Front and back lockable doors, extendable stabilizers for use when loading and unloading the rack, neat and tidy cable management, matching peripheral shelves, rack coupling kits, and storable keyboard and LCD console. To accommodate previous generation Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers, special rack mounting conversion kits will also be available.

Two new storage nodes are also being introduced with these the racks. They offer extended disk storage and backup support for all PRIMERGY servers.

PRIMERGY S10 is a 3U height cabinet that provides a simple to use yet high-performance data backup facility. It supports popular backup devices, including DLT 7000, DDS4, autoloaders, etc. in either two 3.2-inch high or four 1.6-inch high format bays. PRIMERGY S10 can be connected via an onboard controller or a separate Ultra2Wide SCSI controller (operating at 80MB/sec) to any rack-mounted PRIMERGY server or compute node. Good design ensures the integrated power supply can be synchronized with the server, and the efficient onboard fan ensures all hosted devices operate at the correct temperature.

PRIMERGY S30 is also a 3U height cabinet containing 14 hot-plug disk bays. Providing support for up to 509.6GB of storage per cabinet, they can be connected to a PRIMERGY server by single or dual Ultra160 SCSI connections and support all the popular RAID standards. RAID plus power supply and fan redundancy mean the system can be maintained while operational, and systems management can be performed using the standard server management software and an LED panel that indicates the operating status of important internal modules.
