Singapore, December 14, 2000 - TNT, a global leader in express, logistics and mail signs an agreement with Fujitsu Computers (Singapore) Pte Ltd to implement a state-of-the-art wireless terminal system throughout Asia. The system is developed based on Fujitsu's TeamPad 7100 wireless hand-held terminals.
This agreement is TNT's latest investment in continuous customer service excellence programme to meet customers' need for faster service and more information visibility. All TNT's Ground Service Agent (GSA) equipped with the TeamPad7100 terminal will be able to pick-up and/or deliver customers' shipment faster and more efficiently.
The hand-held terminals simultaneously transmit the shipment status to, or receive instructions from its TNT depot whilst the GSA is on the move. The status of the shipment is automatically updated into TNT's global tracking system for customers' easy access via the TNT web-site, www.tnt.com.
Commenting on this new investment, Ken McCall, Regional Vice President, TNT Asia, said "This enhanced technology significantly improves our customer service by giving our customers real-time access to the latest and most reliable information of their shipment right from the point of pick-up."
The wireless terminal system will be operational in TNT Singapore at the start of Y2001 and would be progressively made available to the rest of Asia within the year.
A turnkey solution, the Fujitsu system is jointly developed with NewsPage (S) Pte Ltd, a leading mobile solutions provider. The system can be deployed in different wireless data network such as DataTac, GSM, CDPD and DOPA.
