Tokyo, September 26, 2000 - Fujitsu Limited announced today that it, along with wholly owned subsidiaries Amdahl Corp. and ICL as well as Fujitsu Siemens Computers, has been selected by Microsoft Corporation as program partner for Windows 2000 Datacenter. Microsoft is ensuring maximum customer and system support for its new product by only selecting partners who have the organizational depth and large systems expertise to ensure successful customer implementations.
The Fujitsu family companies selected for the program all have extensive high-availability enterprise systems experience. This matches perfectly Microsoft's intentions for scaling its technology for enterprise class performance.
"I am confident that the special skills and broad base of large systems expertise we bring to the table will ensure that Windows 2000 Datacenter installations on our PRIMERGY servers will achieve the highest possible levels of system availability," said Mr. Tatsushi Miyazawa, senior vice president of Fujitsu Limited and president of its Computer Systems Group. "It is very significant that of only thirteen companies that Microsoft has selected worldwide, four of them are members of the Fujitsu family."
While able to provide a common level of support and services, each of the companies brings its own special business skills and proven technology expertise to the marketplace. Amdahl has honed its large systems knowledge and skills through its long experience of meeting the needs of North American and multinational Fortune 1000 companies. ICL is the European leader in Microsoft services and support. And Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Siemens Computers can both call on over 40 years of large systems expertise, broad IT engineering skills and world-class product portfolios.
Starting in October 2000, European companies ICL and Fujitsu Siemens Computers will initiate support for Windows 2000 Datacenter based on current PRIMERGY 8-way servers and ICL's own branded Trimetra servers. Fujitsu Siemens Computers will also establish a worldwide competency center where all Fujitsu customer configurations can be validated to Microsoft's exacting standards. Test marketing will commence in all other major markets to judge customer requirements.
As part of today's announcement, Fujitsu also revealed that it has drawn up plans for a new generation PRIMERGY server, currently unnamed but targeted at Windows 2000 Datacenter solutions. Following the validation of standard configurations based upon this new hardware, slated for Q1 2001, Fujitsu will commence full promotion in Japan, North America and all other development markets with Windows2000 Datacenter solutions.
