Tokyo: August 31, 2000 --- Fujitsu LSI Solution Limited (FLS), a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Fujitsu Ltd. dedicated to designing and developing as well
as providing service for system LSI (system-on-chip) products, commences
operations on September 1. The new company is capitalized at 400
million yen and will initially employ about 80 people.
Completely financed by Fujitsu, FLS incorporates human resources and assets
from NKK Corporation's advanced LSI design and development operations,
which will be transferred to Fujitsu under the agreement between the
two companies made in June. It will focus on system LSI design and
development work for the large-capacity, high-performance network market,
which is expected to experience a rapid growth, and the market for
next-generation mobile information terminals and digital AV devices. In
the near future, the new company intends to expand its operations and
make its high-quality system-on-chip design, development and service
available on a global basis.
At a time when system LSI design and development engineers are in short
supply, FLS is a significant addition to Fujitsu's capabilities.
Together with another Fujitsu affiliate with significant accomplishments
in this field, Fujitsu VLSI Ltd., Fujitsu intends to position FLS as a
major base for its system LSI development in Japan with a pivotal role
in expanding the company's system LSI business.
