Fujitsu Introduces its Highest Performance in an 8-Way IA Server

New PRIMERGY Model Is Ideal for Server Consolidation

PRIMERGY HS910 Tokyo, July 17, 2000 - Fujitsu Limited today announced the release of the highest performing 8-way PRIMERGY server ever - the PRIMERGY HS910 - a powerful compute node based on eight 700MHz Intel® Pentium®III Xeon™ processors and aimed at the growing use of Intel architecture (IA) PC servers for database, data center and server consolidation tasks. Reflecting the global consolidation of its server lines, the new PRIMERGY HS910 being marketed in Asia/Pacific and the Americas now has the same base configuration as Fujitsu Siemens Computers' PRIMERGY N800 product being offered in Europe.

"This is good news for Fujitsu and its global customers as Fujitsu Siemens Computers has just achieved a new TPC-C world record for IA servers with their edition of this product," said Mr. Tatsushi Miyazawa, senior vice president and group president Computer Systems Group, Fujitsu Limited. "This is another example of our continuing commitment to the needs of our large global customers as we work to fully unify our product line codes across all our operations and partnerships."

The easy systems and asset management of fewer, large servers has in recent times resulted in the steady growth in acceptance of 8-way PC servers. Data center managers are also seeking to replace a multitude of distributed small file/print, application and mail servers. They need to move from the days of client server to systems that now match Internet architecture, with its more centralized and tiered server approach.

Such consolidation makes high-availability and greater reliability more important than ever. To meet this challenge, the PRIMERGY HS910 follows Fujitsu's "Perpetual Computing" strategy: operational redundancy of all major components, including processors, memory, power supplies, hard disks, Pro-active fans, and LAN cards, is provided as standard. In addition Fujitsu's built-in Preventative Maintenance Alerting and Fast Reliable Diagnosis firmware ensures the best in early warning systems, managed preventative maintenance and fast problem diagnosis. These top-of-the-line features minimize downtime and in most cases prevent it all together.

PRIMERGY HS910 servers also come with a full 3-year parts and on-site labor warranty. Through the simple installation of the LDSM or Servervisor management software supplied as standard, this can be extended to include Pre-failure warranty on items such as disks, memory etc. whose status can be monitored by the management system.

Fujitsu's PRIMERGY HS910 will start shipping in early September.

Details on TPC-C and tmpC:
TPC-C is a standardized benchmark test for evaluating the throughput performance of complete system configurations. The TPC-C benchmark comes under the jurisdiction of the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC). The results may be published only after having been audited by a TPC-appointed auditor. The TPC-C benchmark models a database application for a warehouse. While the system processes a number of simulated payment, order status, delivery and stock-level transactions, the benchmark measures the number of "new order" transactions that can still be accepted. The tpm-C metric indicates the number of "new order" transactions which can be fully processed per minute with a response time of less than five seconds. Further information on the TPC institution, the TPC-C benchmark and published benchmark results can be downloaded from the TPC website at http://www.tpc.org/.
