Fujitsu Receives 5 Billion Yen Digital Switching System Contract from
Cable & Wireless HKT in Hong Kong
Tokyo, January 17, 2000 - Fujitsu Limited has signed a 3-years
contract valued at approximately 5 billion yen through Iwatani
International Corporation for the supply of digital switching systems
to Cable & Wirelesss HKT. The contract covers deployment of
Fujitsu's FETEX-150 switching systems, including enhanced FETEX-150
E-cube models capable of handling Internet Protocol (IP) switching.
The E-cube system architecture is designed for both voice and data
applications, making possible true voice/data convergence in the
public network.
Pursuing "Everything on the Internet" as a core business strategy,
Fujitsu has been concentrating its management resources on Internet-
related businesses. IP traffic is expected to increase drastically in
the coming years due to the proliferation of e-commerce and network
communication. Fujitsu is committed to the development of
telecommunications products suited for the emerging IP era, along
with services that not only meet the needs of carriers and other
communications customers but also focus on the requirements of these
customers' customers.
Fujitsu has been supplying Cable & Wireless HKT with FETEX-150
switches covering more than 2.6 million subscriber lines since 1981.
In addition, it has been providing the carrier with Synchronous
Optical Network Transmission (SONET) systems and Asynchronous
Transfer Mode (ATM) switches. The company intends to build on this
long-standing close relationship with Cable & Wireless HKT and
coorperate with them to develop their next-generation network.
