Fujitsu GP7000F Servers Achieve Two Performance Records

- Best ever SAP R/3 and Baan benchmarks -

Tokyo, November 26, 1999---Fujitsu Limited announced today that its current mid-range Solaris workhorse, the GP7000F Model 600 with up to eight SPARC64(TM) GP 300MHz processors, has achieved two performance records certified by both SAP AG and Baan. This news comes soon after the announcements of much larger and even higher performance 32-way and 64-way processors systems in this product range.

The result for the SAP R/3 two-tier Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark, is the best result for large departmental servers with up to eight processors achieved to date. The GP7000F M600 supported 430 SD benchmark users, the highest number of users ever supported with the SAP R/3 release 4.0B on a single central server.

The result for Baan showed the GP7000F M600 supporting 1,680 Baan Reference users, a step up on the previous performance benchmark which achieved 1575 Baan Reference users on a similar sized 400Mhz UltraSPARC server.

"It is our intention to offer our customers a product which not only supports the widest range of Unix applications but also delivers the best possible price performance," said Mr. Isao Suzuki, Senior Vice President and Group President, Marketing Group, Fujitsu Limited. "These SAP and Baan Benchmark results are indicative of our focus on value for money and system performance with our SPARC64 GP processor based GP7000F UNIX server range."

The SAP benchmark was achieved using SAP's R/3 Sales & Distribution component release 4.0B and the Oracle 8.0.5 database, running on the Solaris 7 operating system. The server, a GP7000F-M600, was configured with eight 300MHz SPARC64 GP processors. 430 SD benchmark users were supported with an average dialog response time of 1.97 seconds. This corresponds to 43,130 fully processed order line items per hour. The CPU utilization of 99%, not only met the benchmark's response time limit of 2 seconds, but added to the outstanding price/performance ratio of the GP7000 series. The benchmark was performed at the Fujitsu Siemens Computers enterprise server R&D facility in Paderborn, Germany and have been audited and certified by SAP AG.

The R/3 Sales and Distribution benchmark is the most popular and important member of the SAP standard application benchmarks, simulating typical concurrent business transactions of SAP's R/3 sales and distribution component. The benchmark was developed by SAP, as a means of measuring and comparing the R/3 performance across different hardware platforms and different R/3 releases. The benchmark emulates customer scenarios. In a two-tier configuration the R/3 application and the database share one central server. An additional server is used as a terminal emulator system handling input, output processing and thinking time of the virtual users.

The GP7000F server series as announced, consists of five models, from 2-processor to 64- processor systems. Availability and performance clustering is also supported using Fujitsu's own high performance SynfinityCluster and switching technology. The SPARC64 GP processors typically have higher cache and much higher levels of error detection and correction than other SPARC processors. The Solaris operating environment is identical across both the Fujitsu/Fujitsu Siemens GP7000F SPARC server product line and the Sun SPARC server product line.
