Fujitsu Introduces INTERTOP CX300, New Windows CE Handheld PC

- Compact, lightweight model features titanium cover and up to 16-hours of battery life -

INTERTOP Tokyo, May 18, 1999 -- Fujitsu Limited today unveiled a new half-notebook -sized (A5) handheld PC, INTERTOP CX300, for the Japanese market. Weighing only 880 grams, the compact new model is fully equipped with a 7.8-inch color touch screen LCD panel and a 15mm-pitch keyboard.

Featuring the industry's first use of 100% recyclable, pure titanium for the unit's top cover, the CX300 was designed to ensure high quality, sleek looks and excellent mobility. With optional second battery, it boasts a maximum battery life of 16 hours. The CX300 not only provides an excellent mobile solution but also offers easy connectivity with other PCs. A PC Synchro-Station attachment, which comes as a standard feature, facilitates connections with desktop PCs and AC outlets without having to deal with cumbersome cables.

In addition to Microsoft Windows CE Handheld PC Professional Edition Ver.3.0 (Japanese), Fujitsu will pre-install its newly developed suite of comprehensive software tools called MOBILESUITE, which was developed based on its extensive analysis of the mobile computing environment.

Priced at 125,000 yen (before tax), the INTERTOP CX300 goes on sale in Japan today (shipment to start from May 20). The company has targeted sales of 50,000 units annually.

INTERTOP CX300 Product Highlights

  1. Pure titanium top cover
    Fujitsu is the first company in the industry to use pure titanium (99.5% pureness) for the top cover of the casing. Titanium is durable, lightweight, 100% recyclable and not prone to causing allergic reactions.
  2. Streamlined hardware design for the ultimate in mobile networking
    Measuring 215 mm wide, 160.5 mm long and 26 mm high (A5 size), the INTERTOP CX300 weighs just 880 grams. Yet, the CX300 comes fully equipped with 7.8-inch color DSTN LCD panel, 15mm-pitch keyboard and 56 Kbps (V.90) high speed modem (*1). By using an optional battery, the battery life can be extended to a maximum of 16 hours (*2) or 10 hours with continuous transmission (*3).
  3. PC Synchro-Station
    By simply placing the CX300 in the Station, connections to other PCs and AC outlets can be easily made without having to deal with additional cables and cords.
  4. Fujitsu's original software package, MOBILESUITE
    INTERTOP CX300 comes pre-installed with MOBILESUITE, a comprehensive package of software tools loaded with useful functions and employing the ease of pen input operation. It includes mail functions (automatic access of multiple servers, easy switching of communication environment, automatic mail sorting, and audio mail reader), writing tools (text note, pen input) and personal information management (PIM) functions (scheduler, address book, etc.) as well as various other functions such as keyword search and communication setup.
  5. Programmable Switch for convenient use
    Two programmable switches are available for booting up the machine and desired applications without ever opening the INTERTOP CX300. If used with a mail application and an audio mail reader function, for example, one can automatically retrieve and listen to e-mail with just a push of a single button.
  6. Excellent expandability
    The following interfaces allow multiple connections and expansion of INTERTOP CX300 through the use of PC cards, compact flash card, expandable RAM module (16MB), expandable flash ROM module (8MB), as well as additional batteries, displays and printers:
