GRANPOWER 7000 Series UNIX Server Achieves World-Leading Performance for Single-Server Oracle8 Database Processing

Tokyo, February 9, 1998-- Fujitsu Limited today announces in a new round of benchmark testing, Fujitsu Limited, PFU Limited and Oracle Japan have achieved the world's fastest transaction processing performance for a single UNIX server system running the Oracle8 relational database management system.

According to the test results, which were registered with Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) TPC-C, one Fujitsu GRANPOWER 7000 Series Model 800 server running Fujitsu's SVR4.2MP-compliant UXP/DS UNIX operating system and the enterprise edition of Oracle8 registered performance of 34,116.93 tpmC, the best ever for an Oracle database running on a single server as well as the highest TPC-C performance yet for a 64-bit version of Oracle's database software.

The achievement was also noteworthy due to the fact that the testing was carried out in an intranet environment using a Web browser on a client machine, the first such TPC-C performance registration for a UNIX server. Results prove that GRANPOWER 7000 series are truly ideal servers for mission critical systems and the main servers for the ever-growing network.

Factors behind the performance achievement include Fujitsu's super-high-speed bus technology, which helps take maximum advantage of the system's 18 CPUs, and the 64-bit UNIX OS/server and relational database management system environment, which helps database process with an extra-large memory space.

The performance tests were conducted at Fujitsu's facility in Japan, using the latest results at joint development facilities housed on Oracle Corporation's Redwood Shores, California campus.
