Tokyo, February 12, 1998 -- Fujitsu Limited today announces a new ISDN router NetVehicle-fx3 for the SOHO and home user market. Responding to growing demand for simpler, more economical high-speed Internet access, Fujitsu has developed the NetVehicle-fx3 router.
The new NetVehicle is a reasonably priced, feature-rich router for connecting personal computers to the Internet via high-speed ISDN lines. Priced at 68,800 yen, the new device will be available at computer retailers and other outlets throughout Japan beginning March 3, 1998. The company aims to sell 100,000 units during the first year. (NetVehicle-fx3 is for the Japanese market only)
Designed specifically for small office and home users, NetVehicle-fx3 enables multiple telephones, fax machines and PCs to be connected to a single ISDN circuit, allowing several PCs to access the Internet simultaneously. Simple to install and operate, it offers several innovative features, including:
- Power saving mode: NetVehicle-fx3 is the first router in the industry to feature a power saving mode that reduces power consumption when it's not connected to the Internet and using only telephone or fax. With this feature, users can expect savings in electricity usage of up to 50%.
- e-mail notification: Also an industry first, NetVehicle-fx3 provides an on-screen prompt when mail is delivered to the user's Internet provider. This feature helps cut down on unnecessary access for checking mail, saving both time and money.
- Remote access function: Users can remotely access their PCs through NetVehicle-fx3 by using mobile phones with PIAFS standard or ISDN pay phones.
- Uninteruptable power supply: Even during a power failure, the router's dry cell back-up battery enables use of analog ports for telephone and fax for up to two hours. Moreover, by utilizing the telephone line's power supply, ISDN telephone sets can operate continuously without external power.
