Fujitsu Software: NetCOBOL Provides Solution to Deploy COBOL Applications to Web-based Systems
San Jose, Calif.--September 10, 1997--For companies developing Intra/Internet applications, Fujitsu Software Corporation today introduced NetCOBOL(TM) -- a revolutionary COBOL compiler that generates 100% Pure Java Bytecode-based applications/applets from existing legacy COBOL programs. NetCOBOL programs execute on any machine which supports the Java(TM) Virtual Machine, including Network Computers. NetCOBOL is the first and only true platform independent COBOL compiler.
Enterprise companies worldwide have standardized on COBOL as the cornerstone of their mission-critical computing solutions. As customers adopt corporate Intranets in ever-increasing numbers, they are looking for ways to deploy their existing legacy COBOL applications to Java-enabled browsers and network computers. NetCOBOL provides all the necessary tools to easily develop Java client applets and Java server applications using the COBOL language. NetCOBOL is the best-of-breed tool to allow deployment of existing COBOL applications to virtually all platforms; giving new life and portability to existing applications.
"NetCOBOL opens new deployment options for legacy COBOL applications. Programmers can now easily and cost effectively retarget legacy COBOL applications to network centric business systems and lower the cost of Internet application development and maintenance," said Todd Yancey, General Manager of Fujitsu Software Corporation Developer Tools Group.
"NetCOBOL leverages our existing investment in COBOL by enabling full support for the Internet and provides for deploying COBOL applications across a virtually unlimited number of platforms," said Jay Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Logics, Inc.
