Fujitsu Introduces SymfoWARE Server Enterprise Edition, New Database System For WindowsNT Server Enterprise Edition 4.0

Tokyo, October 29, 1997 - Fujitsu today began marketing in Japan a new database system for WindowsNT Server Enterprise Edition 4.0. Named SymfoWARE Server Enterprise Edition V1.1, the new system is Fujitsu's latest response to the growing need for highly reliable, high performance mission critical system architecture in the PC server environment.

Capitalizing on Fujitsu's established commercial database technology for mainframe computers, SymfoWARE was developed as a large-scale, highly reliable, high-performance database system that will enable PC servers to handle expanding Internet, intranet, data warehouse and data mining applications.

Improved features include:

• Combination of operating server and stand-by server enables automatic restoration and uninterrupted application operation when operating server runs into problems.
• Divided database management function facilitates structuring of a large scale database, and it also enables short-term local data restoration.
• Operating time is minimized due to high-speed backup system, high-speed database creation, and faster data restoration.

As part of its global product strategy, Fujitsu plans to market SymfoWARE in Europe and Asian Pacific region early next year and eventually in the U.S.

In the next three years, the company aims to sell 30,000 SymfoWARE systems (priced from 1.5 million yen).
