Fujitsu and Fujitsu VLSI have jointly released the new ASTRO ARRAY series for digital mobile communications in the 2.5 GHz frequency bands. They will start accepting orders from domestic and foreign mobile communications equipment makers on March 28 1996.
Recently, mobile communication equipment such as Personal Handy phone system is rapidly widespread. So, terminal equipment using digital system (with superior characteristics to analog system) is expected to remarkably increase in worldwide.
In order that it is widespread, smaller size and lower power is required.
The Fujitsu ASTRO ARRAY IV NB1570 series is an enhanced version of the conventional ASTRO ARRAY series.
In addition to the high-frequency analog VCO, MIX, and AMP circuits in the conventional ASTRO ARRAY, this series incorporates cells such as cross-flow modulator and demodulator required for digital communications, IF-band RSSI, LIMIT-AMP, and AGC. The advanced isolation layout technology also improves isolation to permit compound LSIs for these cells.
This series achieves a transmitting/receiving front-end system LSI incorporating the entire radio system, excluding GaAs ICs such as power AMP, and LNA and filters, in one chip.
This series achieve about 30% reduction of low power and max 30% reduction of mounted area, compared with previous series.
This improvement is given by higher integrated semicustom IC technology which is realized by U-ESBIC*2 technology and circuit optimization. Current consumption of 9 mA in the lock mode (at operating frequencies of 2.0 GHz and 0.5 GHz) is the world's lowest value in its class. The PLL*3 unit contains a unique circuit (supercharger) for high-speed tuning required by digital mobile communications equipment.
