Tokyo, June 27, 1996 --- Fujitsu Limited today announced a family of ten new software products that greatly enhance the Global Server GS8000 Series capabilities in open network computing environments such as Internet and Intranet information systems.
The new products include networking tools, database applications and client-server products that significantly improve the performance, capabilities and connectivity of GS Series in open network systems. With today's new software tools, Fujitsu's highly successful GS8000 Series of CMOS-based servers will play an increasingly important role in making the information stored in enterprise computer systems available via open networks.
A total of ten software products (5 each for the two GS8000 Series operating systems, MSP and XSP) are being released. The enhancements cover three areas:
Availability: These products will be sold in Japanese market ONLY at first.
Sales Target: 6000 units for the entire GS8000 Server Series over three years.
Key Products in this Announcement
Products that provide linkage functions to existing assets on Global Servers via PCs using an Internet/Intranet browser. This allows customers to expand their business activities enterprisewide and through better use of individual PCs.
1) "NETSTAGE Partner"
"NETSTAGE Partner" provides an Internet linkage function between PC client and Global Server's AIM application. This function realizes communication between enterprise and individuals, and new type business in many area like travel agent business opportunity, mail-order business will be developed.
2) "VTAM-G TISP"
"VTAM-G TISP" provides highly improved performance, approximately 5 times improvement compared to existing TISP. Reliability is also improved by some roots setting between client/server and GS8000 against to the network failure.
Availability of TCP/IP communication expands to enterprise system in addition to the FNA(*3)/OSI communication.
1) Relational DB "SymfoWARE Server", optimal Data Warehouse engine and the basis for future core business application construction "SymfoWARE Server" inherits all the functions of Fujitsu's relational database, RDBII, in terms of high performance, high reliability and flexibility. RDBII has achieved more that 3,000 installations worldwide. "SymfoWARE Server" can be the core of enterprise data processing, offering functional enhancement in productivity improvement through multimedia handling and SQL enhancement.
"SymfoWARE Server" enables central management of large amount of data quite easily resulting in "SymfoWARE Server" itself can be the core of the Data Warehouse construction.
In combination with Fujitsu recently introduced "TX5000" parallel DB processor, the GS8000 series to achieve super high speed data retrieval and extraction, "SymfoWARE Server" enables customers to create optimal Data Warehouses even for very large scale systems.
Moreover, SymfoWARE Server access through Internet is possible by handshaking with the another Fujitsu product called WebLINK, run on WWW server under Solaris and UXP/DS. This function, of course, is useful to extend the range of customer's business criteria.
2) "SymfoWARE Navigator" Relational DB based OLAP product adapting and user oriented "Multi dimension informational technology" "SymfoWARE Navigator" is a totally new type of RDB - OLAP tool that enables end users to expand two dimensional relational data into multi-dimensional data using a new "Multi-dimension informational technology"" tool. Based on a new methodology called "Reverse navigation technology."
"Multi-dimension informational technology" of "SymfoWARE Navigator" can generate multi-dimensional views from general relational database without using any special database or dedicated application. And data linkage to spread sheet software also improves the productivity.
When this new technology is adapted, direct and easy data utilization by end users is possible with multi-dimensional data view without modifying the existing relational database. Consequently, customers can easily generate the multi dimensional decision support system.
Fujitsu has already issued the 72 patents application related to SymfoWARE Navigator technology in Japan, US and the other countries.
"SymfoNET" enables client server type data linkage for effective use of existing data on global servers. "SymfoNET" is the basic software that enables exiting resources on Global Servers such as SAM or VSAM to be used from PCs, through a familiar PC view like a web browser, without having to develop any custom applications. Client Server type transaction and retrieval processing on the GS8000 is already possible using PowerAIM products. But SymfoNET fills the need for client server batch processing on Global Server and full cycle of enterprise processing can be done on global server in client server processing style.
For open data connectivity, the existing data on the Global Server access through Internet or Intranet is possible with product called SymfoNET/Web Gateway that runs on WWW server under Soralis 2.x or UXP/DS. Moreover, Fujitsu will positively promote the partnership with world class software vendors to provide products to achieve more effective operation management environment with in sense of labor saving and automation so as to improve effectiveness in systems and job management in open network computing environment.
Fujitsu plans to provide further efficient solution of system management and operational management in cooperation with ISV, and provides automatically and operational cost reduction of operational management.
