Fujitsu's PRIMEPOWER Servers Get Another Big Performance Boost

Seven Performance-Enhanced PRIMEPOWER Models Introduced,
Providing Superlative Investment Protection and Flexibility

PRIMEPOWERTokyo, July 17, 2002-Fujitsu Limited today announced major performance upgrades to its PRIMEPOWERTM family of SolarisTM compatible servers with the global introduction of seven enhanced models (PRIMEPOWER 200, 400, 650, 850, 800, 1000, 2000) featuring new 810 MHz, 788 MHz and 700 MHz SPARC64 GPTM processors.

Among the performance enhancements, mid-range PRIMEPOWER 650/850 systems with new 810 MHz processors provide about a 12% boost over current systems in online transaction performance and about 30% in processor-intensive performance, while PRIMEPOWER 2000 systems with new 788 MHz processors offer a transaction performance increase of about 23% over the 563 MHz processor systems. These improvements are especially significant considering that the PRIMEPOWER 2000 128-way version with 563 MHz processors still hold the number one spot in the TPC-C benchmark table. (455,818.20tpmC, at $28.58/tpmC, availability date Feb. 28, 2002).

PRIMEPOWER models 2000, 1000 and 800 will be available with 788 MHz processors, while models 850, 650, 400 and 200 will be available with 810 MHz or 700 MHz processors. PRIMEPOWER's in-built ability to easily add capacity enables adaptive enterprise customers to take advantage of these improvements and flexibly grow their installations based on already proven technology, thereby maximizing return on IT resource investment.

PRIMEPOWER holds a number of performance benchmark world records with its 563 MHz and 675 MHz processors (see http://primepower.fujitsu.com/en/benchmark.html for details), and Fujitsu expects to set new benchmark records with the faster processors.

PRIMEPOWER's excellent scalability, smooth and linear performance curve, and high-reliability design provide system longevity; additional performance can be achieved just by adding processors. Unique advantages include the ability to run multiple versions of the Solaris environment on the same server, thereby helping customers' protect their investment in business application software, and the ability to partition as well as mix processor speeds so that additional workloads can be accommodated easily and business can grow at minimal additional cost.
