Fujitsu Launches Interstage V5, - the Software Platform for "Collaborative Business Integration"

Tokyo, June 6, 2002-Fujitsu Limited announced today the global release of Interstage V5, the latest version of its software platform for helping companies collaborate and integrate their business information systems via Internet.

The widespread availability of fast Internet connectivity is transforming the corporate world. No matter what business field they are in, all companies need to quickly adapt to this constantly evolving environment. Business collaboration and the ability to share information with a variety of users through integrated information systems that transcend boundaries-both within corporations and between corporations-have become essential.

In order to meet the various demands of such business collaborations, Fujitsu has realized its Interstage family in three product areas: Foundation products, Integration products and Development suite.

Product Overview
Foundation products:
Provide the foundation for building a web-services system, with an internal network, storage, and application platform optimized for corporate needs.
  • Interstage Application Server
  • Interstage Traffic Director
  • Interstage Security Director
These products boast successful track records in a variety of different fields and types of operations. The Interstage Application Server integrates open technologies, such as J2EE*1, CORBA, SOAP*2, UDDI*3 and .NET*4, to create an advanced, high-performance, high-reliability application implementation environment. Interstage Traffic Director and Interstage Security Director increase the scalability of Interstage Application Server and create a secure environment.

Integration products:
Designed to integrate distributed data, content, and business processes.
  • Interstage Potalworks
  • Interstage Contentwiz
  • Interstage CollaborationRing
Taking the place of customized business applications, these products link together components over the Internet to quickly and efficiently create large-scale business environments. It includes Interstage Portalworks for front-end integration, Interstage CollaborationRing for process integration, and Interstage Contentwiz for content integration.

Development suite:
Assists customers in application development and maintenance.
  • Interstage Apworks
  • Interstage Apcoordinator
  • Interstage Solution Suite (available only in Japan)
Interstage Apworks, the Java integrated development environment for the entire Interstage family, covers all development, from conventional web applications to web services. And Interstage Apcoordinator, the application development framework, makes the development process more efficient, with higher quality results. Interstage Solution Suite provides system-construction know-how in the form of templates, for speedier system development.

Interstage is the most popular middleware in Japan, with 31,000 servers shipped as of March 2002, giving it an unsurpassed track record. In addition, it has been used by Fujitsu itself to link its procurement system with those of several major technology corporations and other business partners, using RosettaNet*5 standard, the world's largest B2B e-commerce system.

Moreover, Fujitsu has been a leader in the standardization movement of the web-services technologies since year 2000. This product has been submitted for certification to various standardization organizations including RosettaNet, ebXML*6, SOAP and UDDI.

Glossary

*1. J2EE: Java2 Enterprise Edition
A Java component development specification promulgated by Sun Microsystems, encompassing a standard and component architecture for distributed Java applications.
*2. SOAP: Simple Object Access Protocol
A communications protocol for exchanging XML-based information in a distributed network environment. Interstage was released commercially only after successful interoperability testing with Microsoft's .NET.
*3. UDDI: Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration
A global directory for registering and searching for businesses providing web services. The information registered includes company information, service information, and category information in an XML format. Fujitsu is one of Japan's leading UDDI members.
*4. .NET
.NET is Microsoft's platform for XML web services. With XML web services, applications can be accessed regardless of the operating system or programming language. This makes it possible to share data over the Internet, giving users access to whatever information they need, whenever and wherever they need it. Microsoft's .NET platform includes tools for developing XML web services based on international Internet standards, management tools, and the client software providing the actual point of contact for users.
*5. RosettaNet
A consortium that promotes the standardization and implmentation of Internet-based supply chains, led chiefly by the semiconductor, electronics, and information-equipment industries. The group has over 400 participating members worldwide, with affiliated organizations in the USA, Japan, South Korea, elsewhere in Asia, and much of Europe. Fujitsu is a board member of the RosettaNet (global) Solutions Providers (SPs), and a board member of RosettaNet Japan.
*6. ebXML: electronic business XML
ebXML is an industry organization that standards frameworks used in open, global XML-based electronic transactions. The scope of its standards covers a wide range of fields, from transport to business-process modeling. The group was established in November 1999 by OASIS and UN/CEFACT. Fujitsu developed a communications-layer editor, and it is the only Japanese member participating in all specification-testing demonstrations.
