Fujitsu Launches Enhanced INTERSTAGE Product Family for
Broader Adoption of Web Services

Leverages its Experience and Technical Expertise in Supporting World's Largest B2B e-Commerce Network, based on RosettaNet*1


Tokyo, February 26, 2002-Fujitsu Limited today announced the global launch of its enhanced INTERSTAGE software platform product family, which enables customers to quickly develop highly reliable systems to deliver global Web services. In addition, by offering a portal-repository*2 of the world's most advanced integrated business information and management functions for Web services, Fujitsu can help customers significantly improve the operation of their systems.

The enhanced platform, which goes on sale today in overseas markets, has been used by Fujitsu itself to link its procurement system with those of Intel Corporation, Kyocera Corporation, Cisco Systems, Inc., Micron Technology, Inc., and other business partners, using Converge Inc.'s e-marketplace*3 and the RosettaNet standard, the world's largest B2B e-commerce system. Fujitsu is also leveraging its strong links with Microsoft K.K. (President: Shinichi Ata; Head Office: Sasazuka, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) for Microsoft® BizTalk(TM) and .NET, and Commerce One*4 to expand the range of applications available to the electronic marketplace.

As of December 2001, INTERSTAGE products had been installed on 14,000 corporate information systems.

    An affordable integration server suitable for implementing small-scale B2B e-commerce and compliant with the RosettaNet Consortium's*5 Basics recommendation*6.

  2. INTERSTAGE PortalWorks ContentWiz V4.0 (Windows)
    INTERSTAGE PortalWorks ContentWiz 4.0 (Solaris)

    A new portal-repository that uses Enterprise Relationship Management (ERM) *7 to integrate and manage a variety of networked business information. This product employs technology from Softlab*8 that is already used in more than 1,000 corporations around the world.

Glossary:
*1: RosettaNet:
An XML-based standardized communications interface to automate all business processes in B2B e-commerce. Originally developed to make supply chains operate more efficiently by a coalition of industries. These included the information technology industry (for PCs and software), the electronic component industry (for chips and connectors), and the semiconductor manufacturing industry (including chip makers, wafer foundries, etc.). Includes PIP*9 and RNIF*10 technologies.

*2: Portal-repository:
A mechanism for managing the placement of all business content (including document files, HTML files, Web-based commerce systems, DBMS, etc.) to make it easier for users to locate relevant content.

*3: Converge Inc's e-marketplace:
The world's largest electronic marketplace for spot transactions in chips and electronic components.

*4: Commerce One
The Business Internet Company. Through its software, services, and global network of interconnected enterprises and e-marketplaces, Commerce One enables organizations to reduce costs and drive productivity by automating business processes between buyers and suppliers. Based in Pleasanton, CA, USA

*5: The RosettaNet Consortium:
Private consortium founded in 1998 in the U.S. to promote RosettaNet.

*6: Basics recommendation:
One of the programs recommended by the RosettaNet Consortium. Intended as an easy way for small companies to adopt the RosettaNet specification with less complexity and cost.

*7: Enterprise Relationship Management (ERM):
A mechanism for unified management of information in an enterprise and for optimal extraction of content from that information to suit business requirements.

*8: Softlab technology:
Softlab's Enabler provides flexible and comprehensive data storage, the ability to create complex object relationships, high-performance scalability and the ability to react rapidly to changing market requirements.

*9: Partner Interface Process (PIP):
A process for specifying the workflow for information exchange between business transaction partners and also for defining the documents exchanged in individual flow interactions. Specifically, this covers the formats and types of documents exchanged in inter-enterprise transactions, such as quotations and order forms.

*10: RosettaNet Implementation Framework (RNIF):
A framework to enable the implementation of RosettaNet that embraces the technical specifications for a business document exchange system, including such elements as protocol rules, package specifications, and security specifications.
