Fujitsu Begins Marketing Documentum 4i, Document Management Software as part of total solution for New Drug Product Approval Process

Tokyo, January 24, 2002- Fujitsu Limited today announced an agreement with California-based Documentum Inc. to market the company's Documentum 4i content management software in Japan. Documentum 4i is a collection of related software products for content management, including the 4i eBusiness Platform and WCM Edition, which are worldwide standards in their respective fields. The solution will play a key role in Fujitsu's total solution offering - from system design to operational service-for management of drug-approval and related documents. The new offering to be available late this month, is targeted primarily for pharmaceutical companies in Japan.

In July 2003, Japan, Europe and the United States are scheduled to begin requiring new drug applications to be submitted in a standardized Common Technical Document (CTD)*1, and Documentum 4i allows users to accelerate the process of creating and managing all of the document filings required for approval. Fujitsu has already established a solid track record in the pharmaceutical industry, offering solutions comprising software packages, systems integration and operational services for the many steps in the drug development process, including basic research, non-clinical testing, clinical testing, production, approval applications, and post-approval studies. Adding Documentum 4i to Fujitsu's toolkit will enable content management to be linked to these software solutions, thereby further enhancing efficiency.

Documentum 4i will be a cornerstone of Fujitsu's document and content management solutions, forming a foundation for the future expansion of applications primarily within the life sciences field. Fujitsu will also leverage the Documentum 4i expertise of its DMR Consulting Group subsidiary in providing consulting and systems integration skills to deliver global support for the international operations of Japanese corporations.

Glossary:
*1: Common Technical Document (CTD):
A format for submitting information required for new drug product approval. The introduction of a common format standard among Japan, the U.S. and Europe is under study by the International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH). ICH is an international committee established in 1991 for harmonizing pharmaceutical regulations among Japan, the U.S., and the European Union by establishing uniform documentation standards for the approval process for new drugs. Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare began accepting this format in July 2001, and it is expected to become mandatory in July 2003.

* Documentum 4i is a registered trademark of Documentum Inc. in the USA and other countries. All company/product names mentioned may be trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective holders and are used for identification purpose only.
