Fujitsu Introduces New Minimum Footprint PRIMERGY Servers

-- New configuration options boost e-business flexibility
and free up more real estate for all enterprise users --

PRIMERGY P200 Tokyo, December 6, 2001 -- Fujitsu Limited today introduced a new PRIMERGY Intel Architecture (IA) server product, the P200, that will enable customers to build an advanced, highly available cluster system in just 7U (*1) of rack space. In addition, Fujitsu introduced its newest 1U dual-processor rack server, the L200. Both models go on sale worldwide today.

In addition to in-office servers for business and data sharing, Internet Data Centers (IDC) server deployment requires flexibility for a range of uses including Web/Mail/Security and mission critical scalable business servers. These new PRIMERGY IA servers, aimed at data center use, can easily adjust to expanding business systems while occupying much smaller and more economical spaces. In addition, their compact design and industry standard conformance will deliver greater increases in efficiency.

Meeting the needs of the broadband age, Fujitsu is developing a full line-up of adaptive rack-optimized server modules within its PRIMERGY brand. It is now possible to construct advanced, highly reliable systems using the lower price-points inherent in the PRIMERGY range of products.

"Our basic strategy is to deliver architectural flexibility to our customers through a broad range of server formats," said Mr. Masahiro Kawakatsu, Group Senior Vice President of Personal Systems Business Group, Fujitsu Limited. "These new models add to our already extensive range of rack-optimized products to provide new smaller footprint and high-performance architecture options."

Details of the new PRIMERGY products follow:

PRIMERGY L200 is aimed at achieving the best possible performance per rack unit.
This server makes maximum use of all available internal space to provide the largest, currently possible, 2-way server in a 1U rack height. Up to three hard disks can be installed, providing a maximum of 220.2GB of internal storage. Use of a RAID card allows the building of a reliable internal RAID (0,1,5) array. With PRIMERGY L200, system downtime can be prevented as disks can be replaced using redundancy and hot-plug features. It is an ideal candidate for deployment in terminal and Web server farms. The ultra compact design offers a choice of 1.13GHz and 1.26GHz Intel® Pentium® III-S processors (expandable to 2), up to three 73GB hard disks, two PCI slots and, 256MB of memory (maximum 4GB).

PRIMERGY P200 is aimed at achieving the best capacity per rack unit and smallest possible cluster footprint.
This rack-mountable server can also support up to 2 processors. It also allows the use of up to 6 disk drives in its 2U height. This gives a maximum internal storage capacity of 440.4GB, allowing larger than standard RAID (0,1,5) systems to be constructed in this form-factor. PRIMERGY P200 also features hot-plug and redundant disks/power supplies/and fans. In addition the Pro-active fans automatically adjust to operating circumstances, with reduced fan speed for lowest noise output during normal operation. Fujitsu's ServerView high-availability system management software also ensures maximum performance from this server. PRIMERGY P200 will be able to be used in conjunction with a new PRIMERGY storage module, due out in the New Year, to construct a highly reliable cluster system, consisting of two P200s and the shared storage subsystem. In total all units will only occupy 7U of rack space.

PRIMERGY P200 comes supplied as standard with either 1.13GHz or 1.26GHz Intel® Pentium®III-S processors, 256MB of memory (maximum 4GB) 6 hard disks bays and availability facilities typical of enterprise class systems. Suitable for clusters, web hosting, and small to medium database applications PRIMERGY P200 provides versatility of use in Branch offices, computer centers or as the main computing platform for mid-sized companies. Fujitsu is forecasting the sale of 410,000 PRIMERGY servers over the next two years, worldwide.
