Fujitsu Awarded Contract to Supply Backhaul Portion of C2C's
Ultra Long Haul, High-Capacity Pan-Asian Cable Network

Singapore/Tokyo, July 25, 2001--- Fujitsu Limited and C2C Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel), today announced that Fujitsu has been awarded a contract to supply the backhaul portion of C2C's ultra long haul, high-capacity submarine cable network connecting major cities in the Asian region. Under the terms of the contract, which was signed today in Singapore, Fujitsu will deploy its FLASHWAVE OADX *1 dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system - the world's highest capacity commercial DWDM system, capable of transmitting 1.76 terabits per second - FLASH2400 ADX *2 next-generation SDH/ SONET transport system, and NETSMART *3 advanced network management system.

Seeking to tap into increasing market demand for bandwidth arising from rapidly growing Internet use in the region, C2C is currently building a fully redundant, high-capacity pan-Asian cable network of approximately 17,000 km, which will link Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore and China. The backhaul part of the network to be supplied by Fujitsu refers to the portion from the cable landing stations to the carrier hotels.

"We are very pleased that C2C has chosen Fujitsu's advanced DWDM and SDH equipment for its ambitious pan-Asian cable network," said Kazuo Murano, senior vice president of Fujitsu Limited and group president of Fujitsu's Networks Business Group. "We have developed the FLASHWAVE OADX as a flagship next-generation optical transport product for the global marketplace, and this marks the first order in the Asia Pacific region, outside Japan. We believe our selection for this project reflects not only the technical excellence of our products but also the close relationship we have enjoyed as a supplier to C2C's parent company, SingTel, for more than 20 years, as well as the strong support we - in concert with our subsidiary companies like Singapore-based Fujitsu Asia Pte. Ltd. - are able to provide throughout the Asia Pacific region."

"Based on our current work plan, C2C cable stations have been completed ahead of schedule and the C2C cable network will be RFS (Ready-For-Service) in December 2001," said Mr Lim Toon, Board Director of C2C. "Once the backhaul is connected to our carrier hotels in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore, Taipei and Seoul, C2C will have one of the largest cable networks in the Asia Pacific. We will be able to provide the benefits of economy of scale and attractive pricing to our customers. Thanks to leading-edge technology from world-class vendors such as Fujitsu, and working together with our regional partners, we can achieve true city-to-city connectivity on a pan-Asian scale."

Notes:
(*1) FLASHWAVE OADX is the world's highest capacity dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system, capable of transmitting 1.76 terabits per second over vast distances without regeneration. The next-generation DWDM transmission and optical add/drop platform provides up to 176 channels, each capable of carrying 10 gigabits per second of traffic. The system uses 88 channels in each of the two bands of the transmission spectrum, the C and L bands, using 50GHz spacing between each channel.

(*2) FLASH2400 ADX next-generation SDH/SONET transport system is an economical and ultra high-density platform with advanced transport capabilities. The best choice for interoffice and long-haul applications, the FLASH2400 ADX boasts: ultra high-density packaging that dramatically cuts floor space requirements; universal interface module slots that simplify engineering and expandability; cross-connect functionality that reduces equipment requirements; and STM-16/OC-48 and STM-64/OC-192 network support for solid growth.

(*3) NETSMART is Fujitsu's network management system for both FLASHWAVE OADX and FLASH2400ADX.
