Fujitsu Enhances PRIMERGY Server Offerings with Standard Deployment System for Heterogeneous Data Centers, More Flexible Entry-Level Options and Common Global Color Scheme

Tokyo, July 18, 2001---Fujitsu Limited today announced several enhancements to its PRIMERGY(R) brand of Intel(R) architecture servers. To be implemented on a global basis, these include new common rack equipment to allow different Fujitsu heterogeneous network products to fit seamlessly in the same rack enclosure, updated entry level models for greater user choice and better overall performance, and a common color scheme for the entire PRIMERGY product range.

PRIMERGY
PRIMERGY servers now share common color
scheme the world over.

A black with sea green highlights color scheme will distinguish PRIMERGY servers around the world and replace the previous mix of beige, all black and black and green models sold in different locations. In addition, Fujitsu will adopt a new 19-inch rack standard on a worldwide basis. Due to differing standards adopted by different designers for the physical placing of guide rails and rack conversion kits supplied, so-called "industry standard" 19-inch racks actually come in a wide number of variants.

PRIMERGY
New PRIMERGY racks feature special area
at the side for holding necessary network hubs.

With the new standard racks, Fujitsu's globally available PRIMERGY and PRIMEPOWER (SPARC-based) servers as well as its GR Series storage equipment can be efficiently mixed-and-matched in the same standard 19-inch 24U and 36U height enclosures. These new standard racks also ensure the correct operational environment for all equipment installed. Now a complete mini data center can be efficiently built into the same rack using PRIMERGY server-based DNS and client hosting servers, PRIMERGY and PRIMEPOWER application engines, GR and PRIMERGY series mass data storage devices and the necessary network hub equipment.

New Entry Level Models
Fujitsu today also introduced the new 1U height PRIMERGY TS125/225 thin servers, new PRIMERGY B125/225 value-class entry level servers and the PRIMERGY S30 pedestal version of its current mass storage unit.

Along with continuing growth in the use of 1U height mass-rackable servers for front-end data center tasks, data center operators are finding more and more uses for these flexible, low-overhead devices. Both the TS125 and TS225 servers feature upgraded 1GHz processors and extended memory.

New, more powerful PRIMERGY TS125/225 1U servers

In addition the new two-processor TS225 supports three Ultra160 hot-plug hard disk bays instead of the previous two, for up to 109.2GB of storage in redundant RAID configuration. Main memory capacity is 4GB, and the units can be installed in a single 1U rack height unit. The TS225 can be deployed as a higher performance front-end client-hosting server or as a dedicated application engine or resilient web server.

Ultra-thin PRIMERGY TS225 has three hot-plug bays.

The new PRIMERGY B125 and B225 models replace the previous ES200 and ES210 value-class entry-level servers. Offering greater flexibility in configuration in an even smaller physical package, common components have been cleverly used to allow multiple configurations. Storage options range from economical 40GB EIDE disks to high-performance set-ups with up to 145.6GB of Ultra160 SCSI hard drives in both hot-plug and non-hot-plug configurations. In addition, the more powerful two-processor-capable B225 can be rack mounted for data center use.

The B125 can support up to 1.5GB of main memory and 4 PCI slots, while the B225 supports up to 2GB and 6 PCI slots, and both models are able to support large databases by use of either the new free-standing PRIMERGY S30 storage cabinet or the existing S30 rack mountable storage device.

PRIMERGY
New PRIMERGY S30 storage cabinet can hold up to 509GB

Also matching the new color scheme, PRIMERGY S30 storage cabinets allow any PRIMERGY server to be extended to meet growing data storage needs. The S30 comes with 14 hot-plug Ultra160 bays, redundant fans and optional redundant power supplies. Dual SCSI channels ensure that even with 15,000rpm drives I/O channel performance is maximized for whichever RAID configuration is selected.
