Fujitsu Merges Three Subsidiaries in Singapore to Further Strengthen Customer Focus in Asian Region

Newly Formed Company Will Provide
One-stop IT and Telecommunications Solutions


Tokyo/ Singapore, June 20, 2001 ---Fujitsu Limited announced today that it will combine the information processing and telecommunications operations of its three Singapore subsidiaries into a single consolidated company, effective July 1. This consolidation will allow the new company to better serve its customers in the region, by pooling resources and combining the sales, marketing, R&D, and support capabilities of each subsidiary into a one-stop solutions source. The merged company is expected to serve as a pillar in the Fujitsu group's ASEAN operations.

The three Fujitsu subsidiaries to be consolidated are:

  • Fujitsu Asia Pte. Ltd. (FAPL)
    Fujitsu's ASEAN operations headquarters. FAPL provides information processing and system solutions, package software and services, sales and support of telecommunications systems.
  • Fujitsu Singapore Pte. Ltd. (FSL)
    R&D and technical support company for Fujitsu's telecommunications operations. FSL develops software for public telecommunications networks.
  • Fujitsu Computers (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (FCSL)
    Fujitsu's IT arm in Singapore. FCSL provides information processing systems and services for numerous business sectors, such as financial services, retail, manufacturing, telecommunication carriers and public utilities.
The resulting corporate entity, which will retain the Fujitsu Asia Pte Ltd. name, will serve as a holding company and the business headquarters for five existing Fujitsu companies in the ASEAN region, and will conduct integrated information processing and telecommunications business in Singapore.

"Due to the rapid growth of the Internet services market in Asia in recent years, customers are increasingly looking for a single-source solutions. The merger will help create critical mass and put us in a better position to provide total IT and telecommunications solutions for customers from various business backgrounds," said Kazuto Kojima, Executive Vice President of Fujitsu Limited and president of Fujitsu's Global Business Group, Asia Pacific.

Chng Teo-Hye, Managing Director of Fujitsu Singapore and Chairman of the current Fujitsu Asia who will be Group Executive Chairman and co-CEO of the new Fujitsu Asia said, "Given the trend toward convergence of the telecommunications, computers and media industries, combining our business infrastructure will help augment Fujitsu's strength to grow in the ASEAN market."

The move underscores Fujitsu's strong commitment to expanding its IT and Telecommunications business in the ASEAN region. Within three years, the new company expects to double IT and telecommunications sales, to over S$1 billion.
